Twenty men and women met last week in Suva to discuss how to mend the fragmented Christian families in Fiji. The people are trying to develop a peace process to help strengthen the different Chrisitian communities in Fiji. An organization called the Ecumenical Centre for Research, Education, and Advocacy has been setting up these meetings over the past few years to accomplish this goal. They would like the churches to have a stronger network between each other and for them to get along. This has not been easy however. The ECREA has been trying for twenty years to achieve this task, and they have found many flaws that the churches have which has been keeping them from being united. Despite all of this, things are looking up and in 2014 the ECREA is going to try and get churches to come closer together.
This article informed me that church groups in Fiji and trying to get Christians to unify with each other in the coming years. I obserbed that the different Christian groups in Fiji have do not always see eye to eye on things and that they sometimes feel superior to others. It surprised me to learn about this because this is definetally not how religions interact with each other in America. If these church groups suceed in getting these churches to become closer with one another, I believe it would benefit them greatly because then they would be able to share their complex ideas with each other.
This article ties into the culture of Fiji because if Christian religions are not getting along then this could hurt the relationship people have with each other. If people of certain religions do not get along then this could cause tension among the citizens. Not only would tension between religions be in place, but the culture would also be affected there if others did not interact with each other and support one another's beleifs.
